A central tenet of classical education is the chronological presentation of history. Ancient and Classical History presents the foundational beginning of history so that students may understand and compassionately participate in the living history occurring today. This course began with the earliest Western civilizations, notably the cultures and peoples of Mesopotamia, the Levant, and Egypt, and then shifted our focus to Greece and Rome. We explored the components of each ancient civilization by studying the politics, philosophy, theology, science, art, and social issues faced by that culture. Studying ancient cultures brought into focus the many values we have inherited from these early civilizations, but also the striking injustices we have rejected.
