Apologetics built on the foundation laid by my 9th grade Bible curriculum, as well as the art of rhetoric studied in 10th grade Rhetoric I, while expanding the area of study to include the core of Christian doctrine, especially the doctrine of God, theological anthropology, theodicy, Christology, the atonement, and Christian discipleship. Students were introduced to areas of controversy and criticism from outside the Christian community, which helped us understand other positions, raised our tolerance for disagreement, and allowed us to practice communicating our own position with respect, clarity, and compassion.
