State . . . for the win!

We headed up the weekend between Regionals and State to play a practice round. It was so much fun and our team had a wonderful time. It certainly prepared us for the following weekend.

Monday morning, I teed off in the second group. I knew I teed off in the same place last year and I knew I had a lot of work to do. I went out and started with -1 on the front nine. I had a rocky hole , which cost me 2 strokes and I finished +3 on the back for an opening round of 74. I finished the day in 5th place and the girls team was starting to get nervous.

Tuesday morning, I teed off in the first group at 8am. Of course I was nervous, but I put my first shot on an opening par 3 on the green and then sunk the 21-foot putt for birdie. I ended up shooting even on both sides with 4 birdies and 4 bogies, for a personal best 72. I ended up in 4th place overall. Three of my fellow teammates, both guys and girls, shot their personal bests that day as well. The girls team finished in 4th place and we are hoping to get a banner up in the gym very soon.

I love the girls and guys so much. I already miss them even though I see them every day at school. The good news is that all of the girls and guys (5 of the 6) on our team will be returning next year. Not just that, but out of the top 10 at State for girls, none of us are seniors, and we’ll all be returning to compete even harder than we did this year. But I am always up for a good challenge.
